Etymologically “Carmelo” denotes a variety of meanings. The best known sees in the Hebrew word Karmel (root KRM) a certain equivalence with the name Kerem, which means vineyard, orchard, garden; always associated with the idea of fertility, wealth and beauty.

Mount Carmel is located in northern Israel. It is a small mountain range, 30 km wide, which extends into the interior of the country, from the Mediterranean, with the city of Haifa, 40 km from Nazareth and 120 km from Jerusalem, and rising up to 482m altitude.

At the Muhraqa summitin the highest part which rises to 482m above sea level, where, according to tradition, the Sacrifice of Elijah described in 1 Kings, 18.20-40 took place.
