In 1923, Mother Teresa of the Holy Family, who professed in the monastery of Saint Joseph of Avila, was sent to the monastery of Segovia. While she was prioress, the community received a visit from the Infanta Dona Isabel de Bourbon, who communicated to the sisters the happy news of the end of the war with Morocco, and asked them to pray that this peace would be lasting. After this meeting with the Infanta, the Mother said: «I felt in my heart a great desire to found a Carmel in Africa, in a Muslim context».

After much suffering, and not without many difficulties, the Brief from Rome arrived for the foundation. The inauguration took place on December 13, 1934, and thus was founded the monastery of the Discalced Carmelites, under the title of the Holy Family and Saint Thérèse of the Child Jesus, in the city of Tangier, Morocco.
