She is like the “Little Flower” of the Middle East. For our Carmels in the Holy Land, she is a very dear sister. With her simplicity, she has gone deep in the link between our life of prayer and the land sanctified by the presence of the Lord.
“Mariam’s life is all impregnated of the grace that the Holy Land transmits. The Land and the hills belonged to her. We can feel this symbiosis in her illuminations and inspirations. She helps us to discover the deep spiritual message of the holy places. The holy places allow another life to flow in us, a life with other dimensions that must be embodied and manifested exteriorly by concrete gestures of communication and sharing. To touch these places, smell their fragrance, to be one body with them, to have with them such familiarity… to the point of becoming ourselves, another Holy Land where Jesus could be born, grow and act.” (Homily of Archbishop Fouad Twal, Patriarch of Jerusalem May 3, 2012)
Mariam was also very sensitive to the mystery of the Resurrection: “What a joy to see the many brothers who will rise again, I will come from the grave, I will rise again. Jesus is not hidden, He is with us until the end of time. ”
“When you start your prayer, think of Jesus; ask Jesus to enlighten you, be united to Him, be united to His Spirit when He was on earth. Jesus only stayed three years on earth to teach you to wait the eternity”. Rooted in the mystery of the Resurrection, Mariam is, quite naturally, close to the Holy Spirit: “We see Jesus with the “lens” of the Holy Spirit”. “The man who does not invoke the Holy Spirit walks in darkness and does not see the way”. Jesus Himself is the way. He teaches us to live, join your fatigue to the fatigue of Jesus, your hunger to the hunger of Jesus, your suffering to the suffering of Jesus. If we live with Jesus, He dwells in us more and more”.
Is it not our heart the place of resurrection? It is in the heart where the transformation of our existence occurs, increasingly conformed to Christ, as was the transformation of the disciples after the apparitions of the Risen Christ.
It is from the heart that grows the great desire of Mariam to receive Holy Communion. Even it was necessary to retain her because of the vehemence of his desire. How to prepare ourselves to receive Jesus? We should know who is coming into our hearts through this sacrament. Blessed Mariam advises us to be like the Virgin Mary when she carried Jesus and during all the day keep our gaze on Jesus. “May Jesus come quickly, because He gives me charity”.
This charity transforms Mariam in a tireless missionary. During the retreat for her profession (after the Novice Mistress had asked her to inform about her prayers and graces), a voice taught her a prayer that was engraved in her heart:
Holy Spirit, inspire me.
Love of God, consume me.
Along the true road, lead me.
Mary my Mother, look upon me.
With Jesus, bless me.
From all evil, from all illusion,
from all danger, preserve me.
She realized that this prayer was not only for her but for others. This prayer has gone around the whole world. It is the universal mission of our Blessed little Arab, whose future canonization we hope for.
