And this is our life in Carmel because, although prayer is our main and even our only occupation, because the prayer of a Carmelite never ceases, we also have works, external acts. I want you to see me in the laundry, all rolled up and splashing in the water. You doubt my knowledge in this matter, and you are quite right, but with Jesus we get involved in everything, we find everything charming, and nothing is difficult or boring. Oh! How good it is in Carmel, it is the best country in the world and I can say that I am happy like a fish in water. (Ct 108)
What a happy surprise, a letter from Sabeth in Lent! You see, the good God is very good and Our Mother too, and they are the ones who sent me to tell my little one that on Thursday my prayer will be very intense and that I will become one with you, moreover this will not be new, because, is it not, we are not leaving each other? You know well the prayer that Christ made to his Father: “I want them to be one, just as you and I are one” Oh, then, when this “one” is consummated between souls, it seems to me that separation is no longer possible; You feel it, don’t you? On Saturday I followed you, my darlings, I saw this train which took you away, but it seemed to me that you were not moving away, because there is One who is the Immutable, the One who always remains, and in whom we always find ourselves !…
If you only knew what a good little nest my Beloved was preparing for me here. Ah! this Carmel, this one-on-one time with the One we love, if you only knew how good it is! Yes, it is an anticipated Heaven. Don’t be jealous, my darlings, He alone knows what I sacrificed by leaving you and, if His love had not supported me, if He had not held me tightly in His arms, ah! I feel that I could not have; I love you so much, and it seems to me that this love grows every day, because He deifies it!
I spent delicious, divine carnival days. Monday and Tuesday we had the Blessed Sacrament in the oratory and Sunday in the choir; I spent almost all my day near Him and my Guite was there with me, because it seems to me that I keep it in my soul. It was very good, I assure you, we were in the dark because the gate was open, and all the light came from Him. I love seeing this big grid between us: He is a prisoner for me, and I am a prisoner for Him. (Letter 109)
let us live with God as with a friend, let us make our faith alive to commune with Him through everything, this is what makes saints. We carry our Heaven within us since He who satisfies the glorified in the light of vision gives Himself to us in faith and mystery, it is the Same! It seems to me that I have found my Heaven on earth since Heaven is God, and God is my soul. The day I understood this, everything lit up within me and I would like to say this secret quietly to those I love so that they too, through everything, always adhere to God. (Letter 122)
A Carmelite, my dear, is a soul who looked at the Crucified, who saw him offering himself as a Victim to his Father for souls and, recollecting himself under this great vision of the charity of Christ, she understood the loving passion of her soul, and she wanted to give herself like Him!… And on the mountain of Carmel, in silence, in solitude, in a prayer that never ends, because it continues through everything, the Carmelite already lives as in Heaven: “of God alone”. The same one who will one day make her beatitude and satisfy her in glory already gives himself to her, He never leaves her, He remains in her soul; more than that, both are One. Also she is hungry for silence in order to always listen, to penetrate more deeply into her Infinite Being, she is identified with the One she loves, she finds him everywhere, through all things she sees him radiating! Isn’t this Heaven on earth! (Letter 133)
